Beethoven the Dog is a fictional character in a 1992 family comedy film directed by Brian Levant. He is a St. Bernard dognamed after the composer Ludwig van Beethoven, who is adopted by George and Alice Newton (Charles Grodin and Bonnie Hunt respectively) after being stolen from a pet shop by a pair of robbers.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
Beethoven first appeared in the Parade in 1993, to help promote his brand-new feature film, Beethoven's 2nd. He made subsequent appearances in 1994 and 1995, before he was retired. He returned in 2008 to promote his newest movie, Beethoven's Big Break, making him the oldest comeback balloon in the Parade's history.
